The walk home from the church on Christmas Day, Scotland
Christmas Day in Australia. Turkey, ham, the plum pudding set alight then eaten with brandy butter. A tree decorated with tinsel and coloured lights and little wafts of cotton to look like snow. Carols about reindeers and sleigh rides through snow which lay all about. And then we go to the beach for a swim.

2008 was a year of tremendous growth for TravelBlogs.com. If you’ve been following along for a while, you may have noticed a shift in focus around the middle of the year, as we started inviting the bloggers we feature to share their stories and advice in guest posts or panel discussions. It’s always a bit of a drama trying to work out where to go and how to get to that little getaway at the end of the year. If you want to head out and get the most out of the holiday season, why not do it in local style — given that most vacancies in nice places are gone round Christmas and New Year why not keep it local to enjoy some Yuletide cheer.

After the madness of Christmas, there’s nothing quite like sitting in the shade on a hot summer day, eating cold turkey sandwiches, reading the paper and chatting with friends. And if the venue happens to be the grand Melbourne Cricket Ground and there’s a cricket game in action – all the better.
