I traveled to Egypt for the first time and enjoyed it a lot. I did not know what to expect and arrived in Cairo with some trepidation about a culture, religion and way of life I didn’t understand. I admit arriving with a touch of ignorance and a small tinge of fear. Before leaving I found it hard to find good information about what to expect so I thought I’d share a couple of the things that I would have liked to know before I got (more…)

Sometimes, new technology makes like more complicated. Think: the highly programmable coffee-espresso machine that collects dust in your kitchen pantry.
Other times, new technology looks cool at first. And then quickly turns tedious. Think: laser pointers and clapping light switches.
And then once in a blue moon, along comes something new that is actually useful. In this category (more…)

I was walking along the Regent’s Canal this weekend as a new resident of Islington in London and wondering how I got here. Not, mind you, in a negative way. Not like those who – ball-gag in their mouth and gun to their head – wonder “How did I get here?” Rather, I was wondering in the happy, positive way of (more…)

I’ve never been very good at keeping in touch. I expect my Facebook status to skip hand in hand with my Twitter account around the fires of my Flickr pages and the result be that everyone knows just enough. When my laptop allows Skype into its inner quarters, I begin my conversations with “so sorry I haven’t been in touch…” and The (more…)

Life is good. The smells of cocina asiatica waft through the air, and the Spainese mix the cooks speak (more…)

On the hunt this year for foam and pot stores.
This time last year I posted a list of the top and bottom searches of 2007 that occurred on Viator.com, and in keeping with this new tradition, I’ve updated the list for 2008.
The Viator.com search box gained a ton of searches over 2007’s total – we had more than 1.35 million searches in 2008! Once again, the one-off crazy searches were in many (more…)
